Friendship has been elusive to me most of my life. People come and go. Friends, or potential friends, enter my life
and I think they will be there forever. The McGhees became fast friends through time together with our kids’ soccer in 2008. Since that time, we have become closer and closer like one big family – McClan. Early in the relationship, I was asked to create a portrait by fellow artist, Mikey, the woman of the family. She instructed me to create a portrait as I would as an artist, free reign. I thought through the creation for many weeks and finally landed on a series of individual images, against a black background with which I could blend them together. I created portraits smiling, a blank look, and eyes closed. The resulting images from the eyes closed struck my core, and the result you see here. I am blessed in so many ways by this creation but especially by the encouragement to create my vision. Knowing the family better now than I have anybody else before, I am thrilled to have created this portrait before I really got to know them which would have inevitably altered this final result.
